LEGAL CPD POINTS 

Where there is a compulsory continuing legal professional education regime in an Australian state we meet the requirements for both barristers and solicitors.  Here are the details for each state 

VICTORIA

On our reading of the rules these conferences meet the requirements for obtaining points under the Law Institute of Victoria CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RULES, We also apply on a conference by conference basis for accreditation with the Victorian Bar Council and have successfully obtained accreditation in the past. A maximum of 5 CPD points may be claimed per conference 

The following upcoming conferences have ALREADY been accredited with the Victorian Bar Association:

The 12th Annual Europe Asia Legal conference, Italy, Lipari, Sicily: 5 – 12 July 2009

The Australasian legal conference, Sydney, NSW:  Perisher: 9 – 16 August 2009

The 14th The Europe Pacific Legal Conference, Italy Cortina,  Italy 7– 14 January 2010 

QUEENSLAND

On our reading of the rules these conferences meet the requirements for obtaining points under the Qld Law Society continuing legal education scheme, (similarly with the Law Institute of Victoria and the Queensland Law Society). The Qld Bar Association in past has accredited our conferences for CPD purposes (but not all seminars will provide points in all strands) and we apply for accreditation on a conference by conference basis.

NEW SOUTH WALES

On our reading of the rules these conferences meet the requirements for obtaining points under the Law Society of NSW’s MANDATORY CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION (MCLE) SCHEME. The NSW Bar Association in past has accredited our conferences for CPD purposes (but not all seminars will provide points in all strands) and we apply for accreditation on a conference by conference basis. A maximum of 6 CPD points may be claimed per conference

SOUTH AUSTRALIA & TASMANIA

South Australia  & Tasmania have not yet required legal practitioners to undertake mandatory continuing legal education. But when that happens we will apply for all necessary accreditations.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Continuing Professional Education Pty Ltd has now been approved as a QA Provider with the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia.  It means that all of the Australian and overseas conferences on the attached list will qualify for points.  Not every conference will attract points in every Competency Area but you will have no difficulty picking up all your necessary points in Competency Area 3 (Legal Knowledge).  Thus will assist you to meet the requirements of ss. 47 & 52 of the Legal Profession Act 2008 (WA) for the purpose of renewing your practising certificate. The WA regime applies to both barristers & solicitors so our conferences will accrue points for both arms of the profession.’’  A maximum of 7 CPD points may be claimed per conference.
