Family members up to aged 21 will be able to apply for a second 457 visa even if thy are no longer dependants. But the new visa will oly run until they are aged 21....
A total re-think is now required in our approach to 457 visas.
The government now wants employers to justify why they need workers on 457 visas and to demonstrate that the employers have authentic plans in place to train local workers and recue the employers’ reliance on overseas workers.
One of the mechanisms that will be used to stem the tide of overseas is a more stringent English test.
It is a huge change in approach from mid 2008 when the Australian economy was desperate for labour.

The review has been referred by the Minister for Immigration & Citizenship, Senator Evans to the Skilled Migration Consultative Panel. That Panel was set up in July 2008 and comprises representatives of the New South Wales, Victorian, Queensland and Western Australian state governments; Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Australian Industry Group; Business Council of Australia; Australian Council of Trade Unions and the Minerals Council of Australia.
